Chail is located at an altitude higher than that of Shimla. This place has 24000 hectares of reserve forest with temperatures much lower than other surrounding hill stations.

HOW TO REACH CHAIL
By road: There is a direct roadway to reach Chail from Delhi. You just need to take a bus at Kandaghat, which is 29km from the Chail. Also, deluxe and semi deluxe buses as well as cabs are available to reach Chail from Shimla, Chandigarh and Delhi are available.
By rail: Kalka is about 86km from Chail and is the nearest railhead to reach Chail. Chandigarh railway station is another option to reach Chail.
By air: The nearest airport from Chail is Jubbar hati airport which is 45km from Shimla whereas Chandigarh airport is 125km.

GETTING AROUND CHAIL
Navigating your way around Chail shouldn’t post much of a problem as there are several buses here; in addition there are also auto rickshaws which make commuting easy. The locals here are friendly and will be happy to direct you to the nearest landmark.
WHEN TO VISIT
From March to May is the best season as the weather is beautiful and all the tourist spots are also open to the public. However, if you are a skiing enthusiast then the months from November to February are the best times to visit.
Since Chail is a small town, there aren’t a mind-boggling variety of options for accommodation. The town has a few hotels and since they get busy during the tourist season it would be wise to book these in advance.
ATTRACTIONS IN CHAIL
This sanctuary is the best place for wildlife and nature lovers. It is also a popular stop for trekkers who are passing through this hill station. The area was declared as a sanctuary in 1976. Some of the most species that you can see here are Sambar, Goral, Common Langur, Leopard, Rhesus Macaque, Himalayan Black Bear, Red Deer, Silver-White Oak, Barking Deer, Indian Hare, Yellow Throated Marten, Indian Porcupine, Common Giant and Kashmiri Flying Squirrel and Pheasants.

Kufri is popular with trekkers and hikers as it is famous for its nature parks and picnic spots. There is also an annual winter sports festival that is organised here in February every year. This region is full of lush green hills and is located 20 kilometers from Chail. One of the other attractions here is the Potato Research Station that draws people from all over the country. Those who enjoy an adrenaline rush can indulge in sports like skiing and tobogganing in Kufri. The skiing season begins in November and goes up to February, this is also when the tourist inflow is at its peak.
The town of Mashobra is located about 35 kilometes from Chail and situated at a height of 2,149 meters above sea levels and is surrounded by thick forests. There are several walkways and trekking paths through these forests which are picturesque. However, the reason why Mashobra is so famous is because of all the apple orchards. It is a delight to be here during the picking season and several products made using this fruit are sold here.
