It is believed that this temple was built for Bhima by Baz Bahadur of Chand Dynasty in the 17th century.

In Bhimtal

  • Bhimtal Lake: It is the largest lake in Kumaon region, known as the lake district of India and offers good boating facilities. The lake provides drinking water supply and supports aquaculture with variety of fish species.
  • Aquarium on the Island: Bhimtal Lake has an island located within it, which once had a restaurant. However, the restaurant was closed down due to pollution issues and an aquarium was created in its place by the Nainital Lake Development Authority. The aquarium is now home to fish brought from countries like China, South Africa and Mexico.
  • Victoria Dam: One of the most breathtaking sights in Bhimtal is located on the bank of Bhimtal Lake. The most attractive thing about this dam is the flower gardens on its either side that makes the place look quite entrancing. The dam is 40 feet high and offers sights of nature that is very rare in other parts of the country.
  • Pine Rivera: is one of the most striking attractions in Bhimtal that grab the attention of the tourists. Pine Rivera is located close to a small hill and a flowing river. The tourists visit the place in large numbers as the pleasing atmosphere and picturesque beauty is highly appreciated. It is a paradise for bird watchers.
  • Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple: It is an old Shiva temple, located on the embankment of Bhimtal Lake. The 17th century temple is located by the 40 feet high Victoria dam.
  • Hanuman Garhi: This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Situated at the height of 6401 ft, this temple offers an incredible sight of sunset over the Himalayas.
  • Hidimba Parvat: A beautiful hill, located just 5 km from Bhimtal gets its name from the Hidimba, wife of Bhima of Mahabharata. This hill also houses a wildlife asylum called Vankhandi Ashram, a habitat developed by Vankhnadi Maharaj, an environmentalist and monk who lives there.
  • Nal Damyanti: Considered to be a very sacred place by the inhabitant of the area, Nal Damyanti is a small natural lake situated almost 2 km from Bhimtal lake, it is believed that famous king Nala's palace drowned in this water body.
  • Shopping in Bhimtal: It is not exactly a shopping paradise but offers many souvenirs to take back home. Jewelry, wood crafts, carpets, statues, Garhwali paintings and handmade candles are some of the options to shop from.
  • Mall Road: It is a cluster of many small shops offers varied products and plethora of handicrafts items, candles, paintings, statues and shawls to buy.
